EPIC

Stephen King has a way with words. This story flowed. Excellent. A disturbing tale but written so well. Highly recommend.

Wow!

The Stand has changed with time. Now I wish I haven’t donated my old hard cover to the library. After reading this version I would love to go back and read the original again. Just like any other book by the Man I loved it with the original characters and the way it was more about the people of the story and a lot of information about them.

The Stand

I read this when it first came out and found it fascinating. My opinion hasn’t changed. If anything, I find it more horrifying now as we deal with COVID and the state of chaos in the United States. What an incredible mind and imagination Mr. King has.

The Stand

It is the very best book King has ever written. I’ve read everything of his I can get my hands on. Some are so-so, but still worth the read! But the Stand.....we are living it right now. An Amazing Story!

It became apparent as I read this book that what Steven King wrote was reminder of COVID-19. Hopefully, we will not have to go through what the characters in this novel experienced in our battle with our plague.

Too much filler

I read the original years ago...and then re-read it two or three times more over the years. Loved it. I was curious about reading the unedited version, but had to stop reading less than half way through. It drones on and on. It is clear to me why it was edited down in the first place.

Seriously good

I guess I’m obsessed with this story as I’ve read it 3 or 5 times already. Sometimes people think that Stephen Kings stories are too long but if you stick with it until the end it all dovetails nicely, and looking back you can’t see where he could have cut things out and still have it be so satisfying and complete. It is also amazing how much this story parallels what is happening with the Covid-19 virus today (mutating virus, no vaccine possible). Anyways, besides his book It, I have never been so fascinated by one of his stories (just so you know, my first and second time reading this was before the corona virus). I also went as far as spending $70.00 to get a copy of the original edition from 1978 so I could compare it to the expanded version and see what was cut out, and was pleasantly surprised to find some completely different stuff in it that’s not in the expansion. Like he says in his authors note, nothing that goes in a different direction, or characters acting differently, but different bits of dialogue that make me satisfied that is was a good investment 😉

A Masterpiece

I will admit, there were many times in this book when I thought I couldn’t finish. 1400 pages is a lot, and it was a challenge. I’m very good I did read this though. The characters are so amazing, and Randall Flagg really made me think about how different our world could be if events like this actually happened. I read It before starting this one, and this definitely measures up to those high expectations. Even though this was such a long book, it feels so good to finish such a masterpiece. I love Stephen King and how writing style, getting you engrossed into the book so easily. Definitely one of the best books I think I’ll ever read. Once you get past the first 200-ish pages, you will get hooked on this book. 10/10, and would recommend to anyone who’s looking for a good scare.

M-O-O-N that spells The Stand

I bought the updated and re-edited book originally in audio format from Amazon and spent a long time listening to it (it clocks in at almost 48 hours) and later bought the physical paperback and read it through in 6 months. Quite arguably King’s finest stand-alone work (no pun intended) it follows the survivors of an extremely fatal flu outbreak and the realization of choosing the side of either good or evil. The pacing of the novel is hard going at times but worth reading

My favorite book...

This book was life changing for me. It was only the second Stephen King novel I'd read, and although the start was a little bit slow, as the beginnings of books always are, by the time I got to the action I knew that this was going to be one of my favorite books, and Stephen King is now one of my favorite authors. This book is great as long as you don't get too attached to any characters and don't mind overall creepy things. 10/10 would read again

The Stand meets the test of time

Great book! I saw where the story is in the top 100 sci-fi books and I would certainly put it there. I like this genre/style, however you would define it. The ingredient list is post apocalyptic, "man killed himself, let's try to build things right," a heavy dose of undefined religion and/or spirituality, and a very defined difference between good and evil. All the characters, good or evil, have their own inner turmoil and grow throughout the story and their choices all make sense at the end. I have not read any other Stephen King novels but certainly will based on this one. A novel this size can drag in spots but for the most part, I couldn't wait to pick it up again between readings. I actually own the hard copy, and bought the iBook for convenience. No one wants to lug around a 10-lb, several thousand pager with them whenever they feel like getting some reading in.

Phenomenal

I've been reading King for almost 3 years now and still am awed by his talent to transfer his imagination and ideas on paper in such a perfect way. If you are stuck in The Stand, my friend, keep going because I can promise you you won't regret it! 10/10

The survivors who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader.

Instead of captain trips, we call it COVID!!!! The man is a master of the macabre!!!!! He does like to kill off your favorite characters though!!! Best book ever!!! Charming Carmen 66

Best book ever!!!!

I’ve read it several times. Kinda scary now with the Coronovirus!

mr. Analyzer

A kind of corona with the burnt match stub at its center.

Thank you coronavirus for making me want to read this. I am 25 percent of the way done with reading it for the first time. It’s enthralling so far. I’ve been reading it for six out of the past eight hours since I started.

Best Book I’ve ever read

The Stand is the best book that i’ve ever read and one of the few that i’ll read over and over.

Excellent book! Well worth the long read

I personally liked it even more than "It" or "The Shining." Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good epic story.

Incredible book from start to finish. This book is eloquent, complex, and frightening. It leaves me wanting to know more about Randall Flagg and is next adventure.

Slow!

My review is based on the original version published in 1978. That book was already too drawn out and dull for my tastes. There are many better appocolyptic novels out there. Looking at all the positive reviews on this book makes me wonder about the quality of books a lot of people read.

Missjgoins22

Awesome!!!

This book is, how do the kids say it everything! It's an amazing book that takes a whole outlook on the worlds ending. I was excited to read the book and it took me a little longer than normal because of...well life, but this again scared me, made me laugh and finally made me think.

Great book, very thought provoking, great character development. It ran me through every emotion. It only cost a few dollars but is a very long novel with a great story. I'll probably read it again someday.
